High School Initiatives

At Atlanta Technical College, high school students have several opportunities to earn technical college credit.

Dual Enrollment – HOPE

Dual Enrollment-HOPE is a program through which high school students earn both college credit and high school credit for courses taken at the technical college. Students take technical courses within a technical certificate of credit (TCC) or diploma program. Courses can be taken before, during or after school hours.

Requirements:

  • Be classified as a high school junior or senior from an eligible Georgia public or private high school that is on track towards graduation
  • Complete an Atlanta Technical College application
  • Test program ready on the Compass or Asset or meet the appropriate SAT or ACT scores
  • Receive a guidance counselor or principal recommendation

College tuition can be paid using a variety of funding sources that include, out-of-pocket, third party, or through the Georgia HOPE grant which pays tuition, fees, and up to $100 for books each quarter.

Dual Enrollment – Accel

Dual Enrollment-Accel offers eligible high school students the opportunity to take college academic courses while still enrolled in high school. Students can earn both college degree-level credit and high school credit for courses taken.

The program is offered during the fall, winter, and spring terms of the school year. A complete list of eligible courses and additional information can be found on the Georgia Student Finance Commission website, www.gsfc.org.

Requirements:
Be classified as a high school junior or senior from an eligible Georgia public or private high school that is on track towards graduation

  • Take college degree-level coursework
  • Be a legal resident of Georgia
  • Meet U.S. citizenship requirements
  • Be registered with Selective Service, if required
  • Be in compliance with the Georgia Drug-Free Postsecondary Education Act of 1990
  • Not be in default or own a refund on any student financial aid program
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress

Eligible students receive an award that pays tuition and fees and provides a book allowance up to $100 per quarter.

Joint Enrollment

High school students only interested in college credit can take advantage of the Joint Enrollment program. Joint enrollment credit does not count toward high school graduation. Eligible students can qualify for the HOPE grant which pays tuition, fees and up to $100 for books.

Articulation

High school students can obtain articulated credit for classes taken while in high school that were taught be the high school instructor. Students have to take the appropriate course, meet the eligibility requirements and pass the college examination.

Fees

Note: The $20 application fee and the $35 technology fee are waived for high school students.

Financial Aid

Eligible high school students can receive the HOPE grant or scholarship (Accel) to pay for tuition, fees and book allowances. The HOPE requirements can be found on the Georgia Student Finance Commission website at www.gsfc.org.

Effective July 1, 2008, HOPE grant hours used to pay for dual enrollment courses will not count against the combined HOPE cap or the HOPE grant hours limit for high school students.
